BUD BILLINGS
Bud Billings was a recording pseudonym used by Frank Luther (1899–1980), one of the most prolific vocalists of the early recording era. Between the mid-1920s and the late 1930s, Luther recorded hundreds of titles under his own name and numerous aliases for different record companies. As Bud Billings, he specialized in hillbilly songs, often accompanying himself on guitar in a relaxed, conversational style that drew on both traditional Southern music and Tin Pan Alley repertoire.

"Who Said I Was a Bum" is a humorous blues in which the singer good-naturedly defends himself against accusations of laziness and vagrancy. Like many novelty songs of the late 1920s, it combines witty lyrics with a straightforward country-blues accompaniment. Frank Luther's easygoing vocal delivery and rhythmic guitar playing give the performance much of its charm.
