CRANFORD & THOMPSON
Cranford & Thompson was the duet name used by Bob Cranford and A. P. (Fonzie) Thompson, two founding members of The Red Fox Chasers, one of North Carolina's most successful string bands of the late 1920s. Thompson provided the lead vocal and guitar accompaniment, while Cranford added harmony vocals and harmonica. Their close vocal harmonies, rooted in shape-note singing and gospel quartet traditions, gave the duo a distinctive sound that set them apart from many contemporary hillbilly acts.
