DADDY JOHN LOVE
Daddy John Love (c. 1900–c. 1967) was a North Carolina singer, guitarist and blue yodeler best remembered for his work with J. E. Mainer's Mountaineers. A textile mill worker before becoming a professional musician, Love developed a singing style heavily influenced by Jimmie Rodgers, combining expressive yodels, blues-inflected vocals and confident guitar accompaniment. Although he recorded only a small number of solo titles, they rank among the finest examples of Rodgers' influence on the musicians of the Carolinas.

"My Wife Went Away and Left Me" is a light-hearted blues about romantic disappointment, delivered with the easy humour found in many of Daddy John Love's recordings. The performance showcases his relaxed vocal style and steady guitar accompaniment, while the 3/4 meter gives the song an unusual lilt compared with the more common blues of the period. Like several of Love's recordings, it reflects the lasting influence of Jimmie Rodgers while retaining a distinctly Carolina sound.
