ELTON BRITT
Elton Britt was an American singer, guitarist and songwriter especially noted for his clear tenor voice and highly developed yodeling technique. Before achieving national success in the 1940s, he recorded with several groups and under different names, then began making solo records for Bluebird. His early performances combined cowboy songs, sentimental ballads and the influence of Jimmie Rodgers, often with only his own guitar accompaniment.

"Why Did You Leave Me Alone?" is a plaintive song of lost love performed with nothing more than Elton Britt's voice and guitar. Free of the yodeling that would soon become his trademark, the recording highlights his warm tenor voice and understated delivery, creating an intimate and deeply personal performance. It was recorded at the same session as "Over the Trail."
