HOMER CALLAHAN
Homer Callahan was one half of the celebrated Callahan Brothers, a North Carolina duet renowned for its close vocal harmonies during the 1930s. In addition to the brothers' recordings together, Homer occasionally recorded solo titles that showcased his expressive singing and accomplished guitar playing. Deeply rooted in the traditional music of the southern Appalachians, his performances combined old ballads, blues and sentimental songs with a distinctive personal style.

"Rounder's Luck" is one of the earliest commercial recordings of the traditional ballad later popularized as "The House of the Rising Sun." Recorded as a solo performance, Homer Callahan accompanies himself on guitar, delivering the song with a restrained, haunting vocal style. He later recalled that "Rounder's Luck"was a title chosen by the record company and not one he particularly cared for, preferring to think of the song simply as "The House of the Rising Sun."
