THE CALGARY KID
The Calgary Kid was the stage name of Alfred Allen Erwin, a Canadian singing cowboy from Saskatchewan who built his career in Alberta before moving to Hollywood in the 1930s. Inspired and encouraged by Gene Autry, Erwin worked as both a real cowboy and an entertainer, appearing in numerous Western films while continuing to write and record his own songs. His recordings for Southern Apex rank among the earliest examples of Canadian cowboy music on record.

"Don't Leave Me Heartbroken Alone" is a sentimental cowboy ballad typical of the Calgary Kid's early recordings. Like much of his repertoire, it reflects the influence of American singing cowboys while retaining the distinctly Canadian perspective of an artist whose career began on the western prairies.
